Long description
Sample of palm-leaf braid used for making hats and sometimes baskets. Purchased by donor from a wayside shop run by a Rastafarian who supplied raw materials to local women to plait for him. He made up hats on a sewing machine to sell to tourists in Kingston market. This is a 2/2 twill braid closely plaited from 11 strips of coconut palm leaf.
