Long description
Conical hat, plaited from narrow strips of bamboo in natural, red, green and black. Basic 2/2 twill with variations to create patterns. Stitched with metallic thread to emphasise plaited patterns; also stitched with beads in zigazag around circumference and floral motifs. At apex a star of blue beads and a bunch of looped metallic thread. Double border of rattan, painted blue-green on exterior and stitched to hat with red yarn. Lined with pale blue and white printed commercial textile; headband of same material stitched inside. According to Chin (1980:71) the inner layer of these hats (invisible) is plaited from strips of sago bark.
