Slightly flamboyant sword-bayonet [.1]: single-edged steel blade with broad fullers. Iron guard has ring for insertion of gun nozzle and iron grip has slot for attachment to firearm. Leather sheath [.2] with iron mountings. [LM 12/09/2007]

New information from Graham Priest, 13/12/2001: "German contract. English Pattern 1856 sword bayonet for P.1856 Short Enfield Rifle. Groove on hilt indicates 'bar on barrel' fixing. Issued to NCOs. Back of blade [Crown above] S [above] 14 = inspector 14 at Solinger. [Crown above] BR [above] 8 = inspector 8 - Birmingham Repair. Side of blade E [above crown, above] 33 = Enfield inspector #33. Pommel * = sold out of store." [CF 18/12/2001]
