Long description
Sword [.1] with leather bound wooden hilt and decorated leather sheath [.2] with a belt. The sword has a straight blade. The quillons are slightly flared with short langets attached to grip the sheath. The hilt is bound with thin strips of leather and the pommel has bound with a larger piece of leather. The sheath is decorated on both sides with stamped geometric patterns and has a chape and mouth that are bound with reptile skin. This skin has been stitched along the back of the sheath to secure it. The end of the sheath is 'tongue-shaped'. The belt is attached to two lockets on the sheath with iron loops. These lockets have a layer of reptile skin attached to them and two leather tags which are kite-shaped and decorated with similar stamped geometric patterns to the sheath. The belt is also made of leather and is stamped with similar decorative patterns. It has two tassels of bound leather. [SM 25/04/2007]
