Chris Gosden Curator of Archaeology at the Pitt Rivers Museum looked at this object on 22nd May 1998. He ascertained that it is made of fine grain volcanic stone. [CK 22 05 1998]

There is resin above and below the head at the juncture with the shaft, imbedded with white shells, and an incised zigazg pattern on the shaft above the head.
