Long description
Case with eight cartouches for holding gunpowder. [1925.62.2 .1] very similar in style to 1938.35.714 and 1884.28.28. The case is made of wood and decorated with metal studs, white buttons, pieces of mirrored glass, strips of silver metal and beetle parts. The case is held by a cord / string strap made of ?cotton, the strap goes under the entirety of the case. The case contains eight cartouches [1925.62.2 .2 - .9] of ?cane or ? bamboo with lids of or coated with a black shiny substance. [ In 1884.28.28 the black substance is called 'caoutchouc']. There is one extra lid attached to the side of the case to give the appearance of a ninth cartouche and a wooden spike on the opposite end of the case on which another lid was probably attached. Attached to the cord of the case is a bamboo or cane container [1925.62.2 .10] with a lid of the same material. The container is incised. Also attached to this is a basketry container [1925.62.2 .11] coated with a black substance. This has no lid or stopper. Either or both of these objects could be a bullet holder. See 1938.35.714 for similar bullet holder. [MdeA]
