Long description
Stool carved from one piece of wood with circular seat and base and caryatid support. The support consists of a kneeling female figure carved in the round. Her head meets the centre of the seat and her arms are bent at the elbow and raised, joining the seat on either side. The stomach and back of the figure are decorated with cicatrization. The sides of the seat and base are carved with a running design of opposing crescents. The wood has been stained a very dark brown colour, with areas of decoration retaining the natural colour for effect. [JC [OPS Move] 8/5/2017]
