Description
Mask of the demon queller. Carved and painted with a long beard and moustache. [SM (Verve) 16/04/2013]
Long description
Mask of the demon queller. Carved and painted with a long beard and moustache. The mask is made from two pieces of wood that have been joined together. The face is carved with an angry expression. The mouth is open and there are several lines on the cheeks, beneath the eyes and on the forehead. The beard and moustache are made from long pieces of horse hair that have been attached in tufts into holes in the face. The hair is also made from horse hair and has been attached with glue or paint. Most of the hair is missing. The eyes are made from glass. They have been painted brown with gold around the pupil. On the back of the mask paper has been attached behind the eyes to make them white. The paper is damaged on one side. Both ears are missing. However, their outline is visible in the paint on the side of the face. Two metal hooks have been attached to the back of the mask and a piece of string is tied to one of them.
