Research and responses

Beatrice Blackwood writes: 'The slit-gong is the most important of the sound-producing instruments known to these people. It serves not only for dances, but also for conveying information. It is used over the whole of Buka and Bougainville.' See section on musical instruments p.406-410 of 'Both Sides of the Buka Passage'.
