- Long description
- Carved and painted wooden figure of a man. He is standing on a circular base, with hands on hips, and wearing a V-necked shirt with a sash and trousers. Large grooves on the face represent scarification. The shirt, trousers and base are painted black, while the skin and sash are painted red. Two perforations for the pupils of the eyes. 1913.31.9Amphora-shaped basket with twisted rope carrying-sling. The basket has a rounded bottom with narrowing, straight sides, concave shoulder and narrowing neck. The sides are decorated with an overlaid zig-zag pattern which runs around the entire object. The carrying sling is made of thick dark brown twisted plant fibre rope knotted into a net around it.
