Description
Pottery bowl painted with conventional figure and 'horrible bird'. Polychrome.
Long description
Circular pottery bowl painted with conventional figure. The design covers the whole of the exterior of the bowl. The figure has a one eyed head and open beak, its body is the base of the bowl, with legs and wings on the sides. The interior of the bowl is painted plain dark red colour around the top and unpainted below. The ceramic is fine grained and is a mid orange colour. There is a chip on the rim. [MJD 03/02/2015]

Information from E. de Bock from the Rijsmuseum voor Volkenkunde, Leiden: The painted design includes "horrible bird", called such as he has trophy heads in his beak. His wings are also in the shape of trophy heads. His tail feathers include a motif of snakes between human legs. [JN 19/9/2001]
