Long description
Japanese sword [.1] with wooden sheath [.2] and hilt made and carved by an Ainu. The hilt is carved along its entire length, the sheath is carved only at the top and bottom. The sheath is also bound at points along its length with strips of bark. It has a copper alloy chape. [SM 02/04/2007]
