Research and responses

Situated just to the east of the modern seaside village of Ancon is an ancient burial ground called the Necropolis, dating from the Late Intermediate Period (A.D. 1000-1500), in turn situated near the site of an ancient fishing village and the fertile fields of the Chillon Valley. The cemetery itself was excavated in the late 1800s by two German archaeologists, Wilhelm Reiss and Alphons Stubel (1880-87).
