Research and responses

According to Robert Nyamushosho (Lecturer of Archaeology at the University of Cape Town), kalimba are a modern, westernised version of the traditional mbira. Kalimba usually have a built-in hole in the wooden body of the instrument to allow sound to resonate (similar to a guitar), replacing the traditional gourds used for mbira.
