- Long description
- Horse headgear of leather with decorative gold stitching and tassels of red, green, blue and black wool. The main frame of the headgear comprises a roughly triangular piece of leather, with a scalloped lower edge, which is curved around on itself, with a large loop of leather connecting either end and another strip connecting the middle of the piece and the top of the loop. There is another piece of leather descending from the centre of the main piece. The outer surface of the main leather piece, the connecting strip and the descending piece, is covered with brown flocked textile, stitched all around the edge with a yellow and black border of cotton thread. Within this there is gold thread embroidery in swirling and foliate designs, and sewn sequin decoration. From the lower edge of the leather a long fringe of red, green, black and blue wool descends, with four separately bound tassels of black wool. The lower strip of leather terminates in a tassel of red, blue and green wool and gold thread. There are two long straps of leather laced onto the frame. [JMC 23/9/2019]
