- Long description
- Indigo dyed headdress with braided ties, decorated with plastic buttons and cowrie shells. The main section consists of three pieces of dyed cotton textile, stitched together, forming a triangle, with the edges unhemmed. The textile at two of the corners is folded and stitched to form the top of the ties, from this blue and natural cotton cords have been stitched. These cords are bound and braided with white, mauve, orange, green and bronze metallic thread. At two points, cowrie shells have been attached for decoration, with a section of white buttons near the end. The left tie has a pink luminescent button amongst the white, and the right an additional cowrie shell. The ties end with four tassels. There is staining and a tear on the textile and the tassels have matted. [AFS [OPS move] 2/8/2019]
