Roach; headdress of yarn, porcupine and other animal hair, attached by ribbons to a beaded headband. [JMC 23/5/2019]
Long description
Roach; headdress comprising a long and narrow base of yarn onto which porcupine and other animal hair, possibly deer, has been tied. This is attached to a beaded headband by blue and green ribbons. The yarn base is a faded pink colour and has a hole at one end. The black and brown porcupine hair has been attached to the central part of the base while the white hair, possibly deer, is attached to the edges. The headband has various designs in red, blue, black, yellow and green, all on a white background. The designs comprise diamonds, triangles, saltires, an arrow and the letters 'HEK'. The two ends of the beadwork are joined by a strip of brown elastic which is stitched to the roach base. The headband is also fixed to the roach in three places with blue and green ribbon. A further blue and green ribbon are attached to the end of the roach. There is a safety pin fixed to the underside of the base. [JMC 23/5/2019]
