- Long description
- One of a pair of children’s moccasins with beadwork decoration, made in a Northern Plains style. The moccasin is formed of a hard sole of animal hide which has been stitched with sinew to the softer hide upper. The hide upper is stitched at the heel seam. A separate rectangular tongue is stitched at the front of the foot opening. A hide thong lace has been threaded through perforations in the hide, either side of the tongue. The upper and the vamp are beaded all over in a pattern of red beads on a white bead background. This is the right moccasin, for the left see [2017.103.3 .2]. [JMC 12/7/2018]

- Research and responses
These moccasins are part of a collection put together by English Hobbyist Raymond Wilkes. The collection combines English, European or North American-made hobbyist material, some objects made by Wilkes himself, and some Native American-made objects. The moccasins were probably made by a hobbyist and are in a northern plains style. [JMC 20/2/2019]
