Long description
One of a pair of animal hide moccasin 'boots'. The moccasin is soft-soled and is puckered around the plain vamp. The hide is stitched with yarn at the toe and heel seams. A large rectangular ankle flap has been stitched around the U of the upper, turning the moccasin into a high-topped boot. There is one long, hide thong lace threaded through perforations in the upper and out of two perforations either side of the ankle flap. For the other in the pair see [2017.103.2 .2]. [JMC 12/7/2018]

Research and responses

These moccasins are part of a collection put together by English Hobbyist Raymond Wilkes. The collection combines English, European or North American-made hobbyist material, some objects made by Wilkes himself, and some Native American-made objects. The moccasins were probably made by a hobbyist and are in a northern Cree, northern Saulteaux/Ojibwa, or Northwest Territories style. [JMC 20/2/2019]
