The British Punitive Expedition might also be the Younghusband Expedition to Tibet. [MdeA 30/7/99]
Dr. La Rocca from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, noted that these bows are usually wooden, overlaid with a layer of horn and then with birchbark strips. [CF 16/10/2002]
This bow was reconstructed by Andrew Hall. In an email he noted 'I reconstructed the bow in its probable shape before the lower tip was broken off and nailed back on at a different angle. I suspect that the original was left stung for a long period and the lower limb overpowered the upper leading to the uneven bends in the limbs.' [MJD 02/12/2013]
