Research and responses

The inscription on this object was transcribed and translated by Fusa McLynn who volunteered at the Museum in 2013 as: “Okanoin”, Gold seal *The red square seal on a strip of paper is from Saijo-ji (the identical design can be seen in 1985.53.422 – 428). “Okanoin” is an iron seal which is one of the treasure of Saijo-ji, and was found when a well was dug at the time the temple was established in 1394.
