Long description
Kukri, knife [.1] in sheath [.2] with smaller knife [.3], fire steel [.4], tinder pouch [.5] and three small leather sheaths [.6] The kukri has a curved single edged blade with a wooden handle. The handle has an expanded oval butt with a silver cap on it. The sheath is made from wood and is covered with leather. It is elaborately decorated with silver on both sides at the chape, mouth and on the edges. The silver is decorated with an impressed or incised decoration. There is an inscription stamped on to the front below the mouth that reads "Presented to J. H. HUTTON ESqr,GI.E.,D.Sc., By Kuki SEPOYS OF 3RD AR.N.H.B.TTN 1927." Red textile is visible under the silver mount on the mouth. The small knife has a single edged blade and wooden handle with an expanded oval butt. The fire steel has a blunt 'blade' with a wooden handle, which is expanded with a curved butt. The tinder pouch is made of a piece of leather sewn around the edges with red yarn. It has a pointed tip and a red leather tassel on the other end. It also has a leather strip for tying it closed. Attached to the back of the main sheath with an iron wire bar are three small leather sheaths, which are sewn together. These hold the small knife, fire steel and tinder pouch. [SM 30/05/2007]
