Ambatch is a type of leguminous shrub found through many parts of Africa, including the Sudan; it to between 4 and 6 metres high and grows in river shallows, producing a very light, spongy wood that was often used for rafts and parry shields. 1942.13.1325.2Cylindrical pipe stem made of wood with tubular metal mouthpiece, part of a pipe with black pottery two-storied pipe bowl. The pipe stem has a decorative bead covering arranged into a lozenge pattern of blue, black, red and white. A long tubular metal mouthpiece is inserted into one end and has a fabric covering at the top. The base of the stem is tapered where is slots into the pipe socket.
