Long description
Model of village gate in 10 pieces [.1-.10] with carvings of rows of human heads, mithan heads, two human figures and a tiger. [.1] is the rectangular gate. It has a projecting cylinder at the top and bottom to slot it into the frame. The top half is carved with five horizontal rows of eight stylised human heads. The lower half is carved with three stylised mithan heads, two human figures, two human heads and a tiger. The eyes of all the animals and heads are shallowly carved with black pigment in them. The tiger's stripes are similarly carved and decorated. All human the heads have carved noses and mouths and the two figures are carved with neck ornaments. The object has a ?local repair at the bottom. [.2-.4] are long narrow sticks that are rectangular in section with smaller cylindrical tops and bottoms. One cylindrical projection is missing on both .2 and .3. [.3] also has two small holes in it at one end. [.5] is a carved rectangular piece of wood with one large circular perforation, two medium sized ones and two small ones. One end is carved with a lap joint. [.6] is a carved rectangular piece of wood with one large circular perforation and two medium sized ones. One end is carved with a lap joint. [.7] is a carved rectangular piece of wood with a shallow circular depression, two medium sized perforations, two small ones and a small wooden peg. One end is carved with a lap joint. [.8] is a carved rectangular piece of wood with a large circular perforation, two medium sized perforations, one small one and a small wooden peg. One end is carved with a lap joint. [.9-.10] are carved cylindrical wooden sticks. [.10] has a small perforation near one end. [SM (Verve) 07/10/2013]
