Description
Leather armlet.
Long description
One of a pair of leather armlets, covered with blue, white and orange-red beadwork in lane stitch. The beadwork was worked on hessian and then backed with leather. The armlets fasten by means of thongs threaded through holes in the leather. Sewn with commercial yarn.

Research and responses

It seems likely that these were made by collector. The collection includes supplies of all the beads used, as well as an offcut of this type of leather. Lines were drawn on the hessian to help position the beads. These may have been inspired by the armbands worn by Oglala Lakota during their visit to London in 1925-26 (DOC).
