Model of an outrigger for the canoe 1884.54.55 .1. Carved from a single curved piece of wood, oval in shape with two pointed ends. Bound at one end with plant reed and decorated in the centre with more plant reed that has spirals at one end. Perforated with holes across the upper surface, where a large crack is present. It is possible that this object was collected by EH Man. It is not stated in any of the primary sources which object [and where it was] the boat was modelled on. It was presumably used as example of a missing link in one of the series [AP Leverhulme project on founding collection 1995-1998]
