Description
Cylindrical wooden drinking vessel's stopper. The upper flask or beaker of a larger object. For the first part see [1999.20.11 .1] [RM [OPS move] 20/9/2016]
Long description
Vessel of wood and leather for storing and carrying milk. The vessel itself (.1) is of wood to which a leather neck is stitched with plant fibre. Strips of cow hide (?) are stuck to the outside of the vessel to form a sort of cradle to which a goat-skin (?) carrying strap is attached. A crack has been repaired with metal stitching. The cup (.2) is of wood. Puzzling it has an apparently deliberately made hole in the base. [JC 30 6 1999]
