There are many different styles of bobbin. Bobbins are usually made of wood or bone. They are usually decorated with words, paintings or tinsel but can be plain. A loop of beads at the end is known as a spangle. See webpage print out in the RDF for different styles of bobbin. [MJD 31/03/2015]

According to the British History Online article about Launton 'It was reported in 1808 that two or three poor women, supported by the interest on [John] Henn's bequest, occasionally looked after labourers' children for 2d. or 3d. a week, and taught reading, the catechism, and lace-making.'
