Research and responses

There are many different styles of bobbin. Bobbins are usually made of wood or bone. They are usually decorated with words, paintings or tinsel but can be plain. A loop of beads at the end is known as a spangle. See webpage print out in the RDF for different styles of bobbin. [MJD 31/03/2015]

The Lace Guild website has an article about bobbin lace from Britain. [see http://www.laceguild.org/craft/britain.html accessed 31/03/2015] [MJD 31/03/2015]

According to the British History Online article about Launton 'It was reported in 1808 that two or three poor women, supported by the interest on [John] Henn's bequest, occasionally looked after labourers' children for 2d. or 3d. a week, and taught reading, the catechism, and lace-making.'
