- Sail, part of model Chinese war junk 1884.81.16 [ZM 11/2/2016]
- Long description
- The sail is made of strips of bamboo or cane positioned in vertical rows and stitched in place, secured at the very top and bottom to a wooden pole. A length of the cotton rigging is attached to one of the poles. Museum staff, due to the fragile nature of the sail, have secured a piece of netting to the back. The wood has been stained. - Research and responses
It is not stated in any of the primary sources which object [and where it was] the boat was modelled on. It was presumably used as example of a missing link in one of the series. [AP Leverhulme project on founding collection 1995-1998]
