- Research and responses
This is a mould for a cast of the terracotta listed as no. 79 in Nok Terracottas, by Bernard Fagg (London: Ethnographica, 1977). See plate 79. Caption for the original terracotta: "Found in tribute mining at a depth of about eight feet near Jemaa. This head, obviously broken from a figure, shows elongated ears, and the remains of buns of hair. The beard is truncated and moustaches have been broken off. One of the eyes is not completely perforated through to the interior. The exaggeration of the ears has parallels to ancient Ife terracotta sculpture and in modern Yoruba woodcarving. JOS 58/19 H 21 cm" [FB 28/01/2015]
