Research and responses

It seems likely that A. Harley is actually James Arthur Harley, who gave other objects, he sometimes seems to have been known as Arthur, see biographies for more information about him [AP 15/05/2007]

There are many barrows in the vicinity or Priddy, including two barrow cemeteries to the east of the village on North Hill (Ashen Hill barrow cemetery & Priddy Nine Barrows). Unfortunately because of the lack of information in Primary documentation it cannot be said with any certainty from which barrow this object was collected, however the reference to 'Priddy Hill' in Primary documentation may indicate a barrow near Priddy Hill Farm at ST 5204 5281 (approx. 1.6km to the NE of Priddy). This barrow is recorded on the Somerset Historic Environment Record (HER) under PRN 24002. The record can be accessed online at http://www.somerset.gov.uk/heritage. [MN 02/03/2010]
