This is a large sheet of line drawings showing a 'German ratchet-pistol', a 'snaphaunce musket', a 'flint-lock' and a 'wheel-lock', the fourth in a series of five sheets of drawings [1944.1.86 .1 - .5] relating to the history and development of different types of European firearms, presumed to have been used to illustrate a lecture (or lectures), possibly by General Pitt-Rivers, or alternatively to accompany museum displays on the subject. [PG 04/03/2014]
The name ('Greener, etc.') written below one of the drawings in this series [1944.1.86. 1] may be the artist or, more likely, the original source (or one of the sources) for the series of drawings. W. W. Greener, a family company based in Stourbridge, has been, according to its website, 'Makers of Fine Guns since 1829': http://www.wwgreener.com (accessed 4 March 2014).
