Examined by the GRASAC research team on 10 December 2007 as part of a research project to create a digital database. This will incorporate information about collections of indigenous material culture from the Great Lakes region of North America that are housed in a number of museums on several continents; see https://icslac.carleton.ca/grasac/. The group agreed this was Wendat and identified it as a calling card box commonly made for sale around 1860 to 1865. The inner liner was confirmed as birchbark bound with animal hair that has been tacked down with thread, embroidered with interwoven chequerboard and cross motifs, a design used on birchbark containers. [for information on Project see researchers file GRASAC]. [ZM 19/12/2007] [L Peers 14/01/2008]

Motifs and Images: On the edging an interwoven checkerboard cross motif appears at intervals, made of brown hair with animal hair coming thrown. The moosehair embroidery is in floral designs.'
