Research and responses

The inscription on this object was transcribed and translated by Fusa McLynn who volunteered at the Museum in 2013 as: “Amatsu harae, Kunitsu harae”, purification for sins of “Amatsu” which are sabotage to agriculture, and sins of “Kunitsu”, which include disasters and diseases. *These sins are listed in “O-norito”, the Sinto ritual prayer, and the concept of sin is very different from that of the modern society.**”Miyanoshita” written by Hildburgh on the tag attached to the object is a place in Hakone.
