Japanese paper charm. Folded paper charm with five Japanese characters inscribed on the front in red ink. The back of the charm is printed with a row of Japanese characters in red ink. The amulet is attached with string to a duplicate amulet [see 1985.53.91 .1]. [FB 10/01/2013]

The inscription on this object was transcribed and translated by Fusa McLynn who volunteered at the Museum in 2013 as: (Front) “Kumagai o-mamori”, Amulet from Kumagai shrine (Back) “Rakuto Kurodani Kumagaido”, Kumagai shrine in Kurodani, in Rakuto (East Kyoto). [FB 21/08/2013]
