- Embroidered baby carrier. The baby carrier consists of two square/rectangular pieces of indigo dyed cotton textile each embellished with a panel of embroidered geometric designs in silk yarn in red, green, yellow and orange. The two parts of the baby carrier have been hand stitched together in the centre. Close to the centre seam a square shaped piece of embroidered cotton with appliquéd edges with red and yellow cotton textile has been stitched. The piece is embroidered with a geometric pattern in silk yarn. Parts of the indigo dyed cotton have been calandered leaving a shiny surface. The bay carrier has two indigo dyed woven cotton ties. On the back of one part of the baby carrier in both bottom corers are embroidered squares the same the one stitched near to the centre seam of the baby carrier. [FB 24/07/2012]

Calandering makes the indigo dyed cloth shiny and is prized by the Miao. It is done by folding the material and beating it with a wooden mallet on a flay stone. [FB 01/06/2012]
