- One of a pair of gaiters [see 2009.135.61 .1 for the other one]. The gaiter is made from black cotton that has been calandered. The gaiter has been decorated with bands of woollen embroidery in bright green, pink, red, white and yellow at the top edge and middle of the gaiter. The gaiter is also decorated with a a band of white cotton embroidered with a band of diamond patterned black wool. [FB 28/05/2012]

Calandering makes the indigo dyed cloth shiny and is prized by the Miao. It is done by folding the material and beating it with a wooden mallet on a flay stone. [FB 01/06/2012]
