Long description
Head covering. The head covering is made of cotton textile that has been calandered to give a shiny appearance. Three sides of the textile have been edged with blue cotton textile hand stitched with brightly coloured green, pink and yellow woollen yarn. At the shortest side of the head covering a length of brightly coloured woven braid in red, white, pink, yellow and green woollen yarn. [FB 22/05/2012]

Research and responses

Calandering makes the indigo dyed cloth shiny and is prized by the Miao. It is done by folding the material and beating it with a wooden mallet on a flay stone. [FB 01/06/2012]
