Long description
Water carrier. The water carrier is made from a round gourd. The gourd has been decorated with lengths of plant fibre dyed yellow that have been glued to the gourd in linear patterns. The gourd has also been decorated with four circles of twisted plant fibre some brown in colour and some red in colour. The bottom of the gourd has been covered with twisted plant fibre. The top of the gourd has a round opening and a braided plant fibre loop handle with each end secured through two perforations on either side of the opening. [FB 25/04/2012]

The Dani people (also spelt Ndani) are one of the most populous tribes in the highlands of West Papua. The Dani are one of the most well-known ethnic groups due to the small numbers of tourists who visit the the Baliem Valley area where they predominate. [FB 27/04/2012]
