Square multi purpose basketry tray. [FB 03/01/2012]
Long description
Square multi purpose basketry tray. The tray is made from woven plant fibre and has rigid cane sides. Parts of the weaving have been dyed with a strong blue colour (possibly painted or dyed using reckitts blue) to create a geometric pattern at the four corners of the basket and spell the words "Tu: Tri Continentales de America Brasil y Venezuela Soi Indio" in the centre which translates as 'two (or you) three continents of America, Brazil and Venezuela, I am Indian' [FB 03/01/2012]

Most of the collection was given to Audrey Butt-Colson by Revd. Fr Cesáreo de Armellada: A Spanish, Capuchin missionary working in Venezuela, notable with the Pemon Indians of the Gran Sabana (from 1933 into the 1980s with only a few years in other areas), in Estado Bolivar. [FB 03/01/2012]
