Research and responses

While the majority of the Igbo houses have walls of sun-baked clay, usually plain but sometimes decorated by clay modelling or coloured drawings, men of means like to cover them with a series of carved panels of iroko wood (sometimes called African oak or teak, Ibo name, ojji). The front door which is placed in the centre, moves by means of two butts fitting into corresponding holes in the lintel and threshold, the remainder of the panels are fixtures. [FC 19/09/2011]
