- Carved stone figure representing two figures locked in an embrace. [JC [OPS Move] 29/6/2017]
- Long description
- Carved stone figure with two heads. The carving is formed of a roughly triangular block with two protruding heads, representing two figures locked in an embrace. One head is bigger than the other, possibly suggesting an adult and child. Both heads are carved with angular facial features and puckered lips. The outstretched arms of the larger figure are incised on the sides. There is a further incised human face on the side of the block, with angular facial features and ornamental headdress and necklace. The base of the figure has been perforated with a hole through which a metal rod has been inserted for mounting. [JC [OPS Move] 29/6/2017]

This collection was looked at by Rosemary Joyce on the 2nd of December 2010 as part of the Fell Funded project "Characterising the World Archaeology Collections of the Pitt Rivers Museum'. Rosemary advised that these objects are without doubt examples of 19th century tourist art. So not 'archaeological', but none the less interesting for those looking at tourist art, especially in the 19th century. [FC 05/01/2011]
General Augustus Henry Lane Fox Pitt-Rivers obtained this object from George Fabian Lawrence, an antiquary, collector and dealer in antiquities. In the 1880’s became an antiquities dealer, opening a shop in Wandsworth. [FC 05/01/2011]
