- Long description
- Sleeveless jacket made from calendered indigo dyed cotton textile. The jacket is part of a two piece [see 20210.40.2]. The jacket is made from seven vertical panels of textile stitched together. Each panel has been calendered to make the jacket have a high sheen finish. Five of the panels have been dyed with indigo dye and two of the panels are white in colour. The jacket has a collar made from indigo dyed textile and edged with blanket stitch in white cotton textile. The inside of the jacket has been lined with cotton textile dyed bright blue. Calendering makes the indigo dyed cloth shiny and is prized by the Miao. It is done by folding the material and beating it with a wooden mallet on a flay stone. [FC 14/06/2010]
