Description
Miao neck band embroidered with fine cross stitch geometric design. [FC 04/06/2010]
Long description
Miao neck band embroidered with fine cross stitch geometric design. The base cloth is made from cotton woven in plain weave and dyed with indigo. Down the centre of the neck band is a slit through which to put the head which has been edged on both sides with a length of white cotton textile. At one end of the neck band is a rectangle of very fine cross stitch embroidery in white cotton yarn in a geometric design comprising squares, rectangles, triangles and lines. There is a band of four 'stars' embroidered with satin weave at the inner edge. Raised areas of embroidery to separate the different areas of design and to act as boarders have been embroidered using counted stitch. This rectangle of embroidery has been sewn to the central length of cotton textile with a rectangular piece of cotton textile attached with hand stitching in grey cotton yarn. At the other end of the neck band is a square of cotton textile attached in the same way as the embroidered panel at the other end, hand stitched with grey cotton yarn. This panel has similarly been embroidered with a geometric design in fine cross stitch, satin stitch and half cross and straight stitch. Both edges of this embroidered panel have been edges with red cotton yarn attached with stitching in grey cotton yarn. [FC 04/06/2010]
