- Research and responses
The collection of Alexander James Montgomerie Bell was sold to the Museum posthumously by his son Archibald Colquhoun Bell in 1920. The accession book entries for those objects previously catalogued as part of the collection state "In 1944 the state of the index shewed that the Bell material from the BRITISH ISLES was not entered. What was found together was then entered, but there may be some of the distributed material which was overlooked when an attempt was made to record it. It is entered bit and bit as found in many different places" (see 1921.91.475 .1 for full entry). For a short biography of Bell please see http://england.prm.ox.ac.uk/englishness-Bell-collection.html. [MN 28/10/2009]
