Description
Hat, worn by women. [MdeA 01/07/2009]
Long description
Hat, worn by women. Circular hat made from plant fibre. The hat consists of two circles, a smaller circle then a band of plant fibre joining this to a larger circle. The hat has been decorated using dyed plant fibre in pink, green and purple to create geometric patterns. The smaller circle consists of fourteen adjoining concentric circles of plaited plant fibre. In the centre on the top of the hat is a swirling pattern in pink and purple. Around this central area of pattern is a concentric circle of alternating pink, green and purple stripes, with three 'v' shaped patterns radiating at different points from the circle of decoration. This pattern is repeated closer to the edge of the top of the hat. The hat folds at this point and this area is decorated with three bands of triangular pattern in pink, green and purple. Around the middle of the hat a length of pink yarn has been tied. The outer ring of the hat consists of five adjoining circles of plaited plant fibre. The brim of the hat is decorated with a zig-zag pattern of pink and purple plant fibre. On the underside of the hat a length of pink yarn has been tied to loops of plant fibre attached on either side of the hat, to secure under the chin. [FC 2/7/2009]
