- Research and responses
This object was examined by Fusa Mclynn who volunteered at the museum in 2009 transcribing and translating the Chamberlain Collection. She noted that this document tells the story of Kumagai Naozane, a 13th century warrior who became a Buddhist monk. She note that 'Kurodani', is written on the far right side of the document. This is a temple in Kyoto associated with Kumagai. She noted that the correct term for this document is an Engi. [SM 22/06/2009] Transcribed by Fusa Mclynn in 2012 as “Kyoto Higashiya,a Kurodani sannai, Kumagai Rensho Hoshi ryaku engi, Kumagai-do”, Brief story of the life of a Buddhist monk, Kumagai Rensho who lived in Kumagaido, Kurodani, Higashiyama, Kyoto.
