Long description
Two strikers for xylophone 1917.31.34 .1 The case [.2] is of a light wood with incised decoration of musical notes and birds. The strikers [.3 & .4] are of dark rosewood to match the xylophone and are stored in the case in an old box originally for chocolates, they are padded with a red cloth. There are also several sheets of music and handwritten notes from music teacher to student, also a sheet of German music and a music book bound to look like leather. There are five straw sticks [.5 - .9] bound with red ribbon which the xylophone would sit on when being played. [FC 1/10/2008] The resonator [.10] is of a light wood with Pyrography decoration (front, sides and back of resonator) of musical notes, floral motifs, musical instruments and German script. [CAR 20/10/2008] The resonator has been decorated with Pyrography ['poker-work']- [Top of resonator] Xylophon Pall[??]ander Aus Holz. 300 Jahr Alt. [Pyrography - written around the edge of the resonator] Vögelein im Tannenwald pfeifet so süss pheifet den Wald aus und ein. Wo wird mein Schätzele sein? Beethoven Mozart Handel. Die Würl[?]burger Glöckli hab'n schönes Geläut. [Roughly translated as] - Xylophone Pall[??]ander, made of wood. 300 year old. Little bird in the pine forest sings so sweetly throughout the woods. Where will my sweetheart be? Beethoven Mozart Handel. [Unable to translate last sentence, could be old German or colloquial Austrian] [Translated by [JFK 20/10/2008], entered by [CAR 20/10/2008]]
