Neck ornament of plant seeds strung on twisted fibre yarn. Worn by young men during circumcision ceremonies. [MdeA 22/01/2008]
Long description
Neck ornament made of plant seeds which have been strung on plant fibre yarn. There are seeds 100 in total. They are largely whiteish brown / grey in colour. The seeds have been perforated vertically through the centre and are strung end to end on plant fibre thread. The ends of the fibre string have been tied together. The strings of seeds are worn by young men during circumcision ceremonies. Several strings of seeds are worn at the same time. The strings of are worn diagonally across the breast, going from the neck to under the arm, several strings going in one direction and several in the other. [MdeA 22/01/2008]
