Research and responses

The following notes are drawn from research compiled by Andy Mills as part of the DCF Cutting Edge project in 2006-2007. This is a partially complete armour that is showy and modern. It is probably parade armour of the early Tokugawa period. A gold-lacquered maru ni-mai-do (clamshell armour of kozane lamellar construction) hinged in two pieces, and laced in white high-quality kebiki-odoshi. The kusazuri, however, are cut and lacquered from a number of kiritsuke kozane - large single plates that mimic this construction, as are the sode. [SM 09/05/2008]
